This was the main purpose of my april 2011 trip to California. I met up with two other night photograpers in the Mojave desert to photograph abandoned places. The junkyard photos were taken at a workshop hosted by Troy Paiva and Joe Reifer near Lancaster, CA. Troy's work can be seen at lostamerica.com and Joe's can be seen at joereifer.com.
"Hancock" That's what this sign used to say. This is what I believe was an old gas station sign in the largely abandoned Yermo, CA. The Mojave wind was rattling the loose fragments of this sign as I shot it. It was actually a bit spooky standing underneath it. It's a wonder that it's still there at all. Troy Paiva captured this thing on film in 1999 and it was a little bit more intact. Kind of interesting to see these Icons deteriorate. See it on lostamerica.com in the "Out of Gas" gallery.
