I've always loved night photography and often I'd attempted it, but not without failure. There's certainly a bunch of problem solving that a night photographer must do to get good images. In the digital age this process has become relatively easy as you can problem solve on location with the instant results you get on the LCD display. Also, the internet has many great resources on night photography. Most of these pictures are long exposures taken at or near full moon. The additional light used to highlight specific areas is provided by flashlights, with or without color gels, depending on the effect I'm going for. If you are interested in this sort of photography there are many great resources at thenocturnes.com. I also have a few night shots in my other galleries.

"Ghosts of Cottonwood" This was one of the funnest shots I've taken. I was a ghost myself, walking around the scene lighting up various areas with nothing but a flashlight and a red tail light lens to provide the reddish glow inside the building. As long as my light is off and I move quickly through the path of the lens, I'm invisible. Although I was alone out there, I felt as though I had some comraderie in the invisible world.
"McCormick" One of many vintage McCormick-Deering tractors in this junk lovers paradise that I am lucky to have found.
"Cultivated Skyline"
"Pre-war Time Capsule" A 1940 Chevy with an inviting open passenger door along with some other vintage farm tin. Light provided by the full moon and an assortment of flashlights.
"Church of the Brethren" A decaying church Northeast of Gildford, MT. This is a true historic gem that's located precisely in the middle of nowhere. This photo was taken hours before a wicked November snow storm.
"Old Man Winter's Ride" A derelict old Chevy truck under a cold Montana night's sky.
"Cold Steel & Stars"
"Under a Big Sky" McCormick Deering tractor under the big Montana sky.
"Christler Chimney" This chimney is all that remains of the Hill Top farm about a mile south of Havre, Mt. In the early 1920's Leonard Christler, a Havre Reverend began construction of a home for he and his wife Anna. However the house was never to be, as Christler was murdered by Margaret Carelton, who also took her own life just after shooting the Reverend in October of 1922. After her husband's tragic death, Anna returned to her home town of Auburn, New York. The house was never completed or lived in. The rest of the structure mysteriously burned in 1932 and this stone chimney still stands, amazingly intact today as a monument to unrealized dreams. This is a composite photograph that is composed of 12 four minute exposures.
