Nights at the Junkyard : Here it is! A gallery dedicated to night junkyard photography. My collection of junk car photos is growing and will continue to grow so I've started a new category for my newest junkyard work. I've always been a car guy and I've drug some real gems home in my day but I know myself too well - I take them apart and never put 'em back together. Now I spend much of my free time looking for abandoned vehicles, junkyards and car collector's bone piles only to photograph them. As a photographer I can take them home with me without a trailer. Through some networking with the car guys in the area I am finding some amazing collections of classics. For respect of the owner's of these yards I do not reveal their locations.

Paul's Junk Yard Oct. 2012 : This is a collection of photos from the October 2012 alumni workshop with Troy Paiva. While I wasn't very productive in numbers of good photos, I put a lot of effort into detail shots which resulted in a bunch of garbage images. However I learned a heep from my mistakes and from watching Troy and the other students work.

Night Scenes : I've always loved night photography and often I'd attempted it, but not without failure. There's certainly a bunch of problem solving that a night photographer must do to get good images. In the digital age this process has become relatively easy as you can problem solve on location with the instant results you get on the LCD display. Also, the internet has many great resources on night photography. Most of these pictures are long exposures taken at or near full moon. The additional light used to highlight specific areas is provided by flashlights, with or without color gels, depending on the effect I'm going for. If you are interested in this sort of photography there are many great resources at thenocturnes.com. I also have a few night shots in my other galleries.

Mojave Nights : This was the main purpose of my april 2011 trip to California. I met up with two other night photograpers in the Mojave desert to photograph abandoned places. Ghost Towns - Night : My fascination of western history has led me to begin a personal project of visiting as many Montana ghost towns as I can specifically to photograph them at night. This undertaking began in August 2011 and will hopefully continue for years to come. Visiting these places at night gives me a connection to them that cannot be experienced by only being there during daylight hours. Keep in mind that many places are restricted at night, always get proper permission and let people in the area know what you are up to if you plan on doing this.

The World In HDR : HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. HDR photos are composed of multiple images both under and over exposed. I use a program called Photomatix to blend them all together to create this dramatic effect. I know that not everybody likes HDR but I do, so I started a new folder just for my HDR images - so those that don't like it need not look at them. Those that do, please enjoy and critique if you desire.

Railroad : This is a slowly growing collection of railroad photo's. As a boy I was fascinated with trains as most boys are I presume, now a 15+ year railroad employee, photography has renewed a dulled interest. Although this is a small collection, I know that I've spent way more time looking and waiting for good train shots than on my other subjects. I try to get as unique shots as I can. Night photo's, although very unpredictable are my favorite. Photographers O.Winston Link of the past and modern day Keith Burgess are a strong influence in my photo's. With the shortening days I hope to soon add some more night shots to this gallery.
